ColdFusion
I know I'm way late on this, I've just been so busy that I forgot to post about it. Nonetheless, even the bill collectors say "better late than never". :)
Be sure to check out Sean Corfield's recent presentation on the topic. It was a great preso, glad I got the opportunity to "be there". Thanks again to Luis Majano and Sean for making it happen.
A few weeks ago I wrote about my joyous discovery of the Uni-Form markup, an XHTML Strict 1.0 valid markup for forms. At the time I had the thought of wrapping it up into a ColdFusion custom tag, but was way too busy with other items to even really look at it. Well, it just so happens that I've just gotten to the "time to write a bunch of forms for the admin interface" on a new project I'm working on, so off to write that tag I went.

What is reEscape()?
Often times, when you pass a string through ColdFusion's built-in regular expression (regEx) functions [reFind()/reFindNoCase()/reReplace()/reReplaceNoCase()], the string needs to have regEx special characters escaped. reEscape() is a tidy little method that I wrote to do just that.
So, let's see reEscape() in action, and point out its good and its bad.

Luis Majano did a ColdBox 2.5.0 presentation for the Melbourne, Australia CFUG last week. Be sure to check it out if you were unable to attend. You can find the preso link on Luis' post.

Luis Majano recently announced that ColdBox 2.5.0 Beta 1 has been released. There are a *ton* of upgrades and feature additions in this release. Check out his post for the details.
I haven't had a chance to play with the new release yet, but I'm very excited about all of the new enhancements. Simply put, ColdBox is awesome!

It's actually been three or four days now, but I finally launched the LISD Council of PTAs site, my first one that is built on the ColdBox framework. The development process is so quick and intuitive with ColdBox.
I've been extremely busy with "kids stuff" of late, so I haven't had a chance to really do much else. Hopefully in the coming days I'll be able to set some time aside to post a couple of quickie ColdBox tutorials.

So the other day I posted about CF YELLING all the time. Today I experienced quite the opposite - whispering. Actually, completely quiet is more like it. No output to the screen. Nothing.

Okay, I've been playing with ColdFusion for over ten years now. During that time, naturally, I've always noticed that when you define variable names and then <cfdump> them, CF converts them to UPPERCASE.

So my good friend Charlie Griefer has finally decided to take the OOPlunge. He has started a series of posts about his OO learning expedition, aptly entitled going OO. Good reading.
Sean posted the following comment to one such post...
"You're starting down the path of the "5:1 Syndrome" where you are going to end up with bean + dao + gateway + manager/service + controller for every single table in your application.
"Whilst that may seem a common practice in the ColdFusion, it's not a good one - and since you clearly want to understand OO and write good OO code, let's at least get the word out as to why
This comment made me question my own understanding of why I do things the way I do them, which has generated this post from me.

Okay, so it's been a crazy few months, and I've gotten basically nothing CF-related accomplished. So, now it's hopefully slowing down enough that I can get back to doing something.
The other day I attended an online ColdBox preso by Luis Majano. To say I was blown away would be an understatement. It's quite impressive. As such, I am digging deep into ColdBox right now and will try and document my learning.
I definitely recommend that you check out the framework.
