Google Assists Me In Eradicating Internet Explorer
Posted on February 2, 2010 at 6:25 PM in General, Rants
When I am elected President, the very first order of business on the agenda, to be established by Executive Order within 30 minutes of taking office, is to make ownership and/or use of Internet Explorer a crime, carrying a mandatory death sentence on the first offense. IE is one of the (if not *the*) biggest steaming piles of crap to ever make it to mass production. IE is, by my estimation, the single-most cause of web developer headaches on the planet.
Now then, since
a) there is no chance I will run for - let alone be elected - POTUS, and
b) even if I were, an Executive Order such as I have described is impossible,
I am absolutely ecstatic over an email that I received from Google Apps today. Here's a quote from their announcement:
"In order to continue to improve our products and deliver more sophisticated features and performance, we are harnessing some of the latest improvements in web browser technology. This includes faster JavaScript processing and new standards like HTML5. As a result, over the course of 2010, we will be phasing out support for Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 as well as other older browsers that are not supported by their own manufacturers."
Thank you, Google! As much as you annoy me and even occasionally piss me the hell off, thank you very much for being the first major player in the online world to officially eliminate support for IE6. There are a lot of small developers who have long since chosen to not support IE6, but now that arguably the largest force in the online world has made this announcement, perhaps the moronic CEOs and other retards that still use IE6 will wake the hell up and realize how damn stupid they are!
If we are really fortunate, these dummkopfs will figure out that IE7/8 are still steaming piles of dung and drop those as well. Perhaps we can get Google to cut support for IE altogether? Are you listening, Google? It's not like you guys don't know what a massive POS IE is! (Read: Chrome.)
BTW, for the record...
A special footnote for all of you IE fans out there who want to flame me for speaking my mind:
Please, flame away. Oh, and kiss my ass! :-)
